Firearms Law Questions

Attorney-reviewed answers on purchase, transfer, carry and storage — free and with no obligation.

Firearms law is three separate bodies of rules that people tend to ask about as one: acquiring a firearm, carrying it, and storing it. The answer to a question about any one of them rarely tells you anything about the other two, which is why “what are the new laws” is a harder question to answer than it sounds.

State law does most of the work here, and it diverges sharply — transfer and background-check requirements, who may carry and where, and whether storage rules carry criminal liability all change at the state line. Federal law sets a floor, not the whole picture.

Because these rules change often and carry criminal consequences, the safe approach is to check the current text of the statute for your state rather than relying on a summary written at some earlier point.
